Obituary

Billie Jo “BJ” Walker-Grote, age 68, of Holdenville, Oklahoma, passed away on April 8, 2026 at 11:07am, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

BJ was born on May 26, 1957, in Seminole, Oklahoma, to Frankie Gene Walker Sr. and Betty Lou (Stacy) Walker. She was the second oldest of five children. BJ attended Konawa High School and later graduated from Gordon Cooper Technology as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

BJ devoted 25 years of her life to nursing, working in surgery at Holdenville Hospital, later alongside Dr. Glen Crowson at the Wewoka Clinic, and for many years as a compassionate in-home nurse. Her dedication to caring for others left a lasting impact on countless lives.

Beyond her career, BJ was incredibly talented in music. She loved singing and playing the guitar, often sharing her gifts with those around her. She enjoyed fishing, team roping, and spending time outdoors. BJ was also actively involved in the rodeo community, serving as a timekeeper for Ward Rodeo Company and, in earlier years, helping keep time at some of the first USTRC ropings at the Lazy E Arena.

BJ was a faithful member of Allen Methodist Church, where she served as a Trustee on the Board. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she loved and knew her Lord and Savior deeply.

Her greatest joy in life was her family and her beloved dog, Dottie. Though she had no children of her own, BJ helped raise many and made sure each person in her life knew how much they were loved. She was known for her kindness, strength, and unwavering love, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

BJ is survived by her stepmother, Wilma Dean Walker; her brothers, Kevin Walker and Kenneth Walker; her aunt, Barbara Stacy Dooley; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gene Walker; her mother, Betty Walker; her stepfather, Eugene Walker; her brothers, Frankie Walker Jr. and Lloyd Walker; and her uncles, Ronnie Stacy, Harvey Stacy, and Jim Stacy.

BJ wished to be cremated and laid to rest at Dora Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Allen Methodist Church on May 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has shown love and support during this time. A special thank you goes to Centric Hospice and Browns Family Funeral home for their compassion, care, and support.

Though BJ is no longer with us, we find peace in knowing we will see her again someday in Heaven.
