Carol Ann Maguire, Cotton, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, in Meeker, Oklahoma, the same town where she was born on October 24, 1935. Her remarkable 90 years were marked by deep devotion to her family, her faith, her community, and a passionate engagement with the world around her.

Carol was the beloved daughter of Guy and Ethel Cotton. She shared her early years with her dear brother, George Cotton—both her parents and brother preceded her in death. Later, she married Grady "Mac " Maguire, her loving husband, who also passed before her.

A proud Meeker High graduate, Carol received her Bachelor of Science from Long Beach State University, cementing a foundation for her lifelong commitment to learning and service. Her keen sense of civic duty and keen political awareness became hallmarks of her adult life. Carol was known throughout Meeker for her deep commitment to public service. She diligently served her community as a trustee on the city board from 1979 to 1985 and further distinguished herself as mayor of Meeker from 1984 to 1985. Her dedication left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege to work with her.

Carol's passion extended beyond her official roles. She corresponded with numerous past and present senators and presidents, a testament to her civic-mindedness and her belief in participatory democracy. Her involvement was never passive; she cared deeply about the direction of her town and her country.

Faith was a guiding force in Carol’s life. She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Meeker, finding joy and solace within her congregation and nurturing her love for the Lord. Her spirituality shaped her kindness and generosity, both in worship and in daily interactions with friends and neighbors.

Those who knew Carol recognized her love for the arts, especially Southwestern art and pottery. Her appreciation for beauty manifested itself in her everyday life—whether in her home, her community, or her cherished hobbies.

Carol leaves behind a devoted family who will cherish her memory and continue her legacy: her nephew Craig Cotton and his wife Vickie, her nieces Shannon Keever, Ryan, Erin Stoops, Mike, and Catlin Kellam. She was also preceded in death by her nephew Randy Cotton and by Joan, wife of her brother George Cotton. And a host of friends in and around our community. 

The loss of Carol Ann Maguire is deeply felt by all who knew her, but her life stands as a testament to integrity, community, faith, and love. Her enduring spirit will be remembered by those who had the privilege to share in her journey—a journey marked by warmth, service, and commitment.
