Harvey "Leon" Prater was a long time resident of McLoud, Oklahoma & resident of Five Lakes addition in Sulphur, Oklahoma. He passed away, age 69 at his McLoud home on May 22, 2019 after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by family. He was a very devoted son, dad, brother, PaPa, Uncle, great Uncle, cousin, & great friend to so many. Leon was born to George Harvey & Wanda Prater on May 10, 1950 in Panama, Oklahoma. He graduated from Southeast High School in 1968 in Oklahoma City. He also attended Southwestern University in Weatherford, Oklahoma where he played baseball on a scholarship. Leon loved many sports, & lettered in baseball, basketball, & football in high school. Baseball always remained his favorite. His love for the St. Louis Cardinals, all OU sports, OKC Thunder, & New England Patriots, were the teams followed & cheered on by him. We always said it didn't matter what season it was he always had a favorite team to watch and enjoy. He was a proud member of the Oklahoma Army National Guard 1970-1976. He retired from General Motors after 30 years of being a very devoted employee. His biggest asset was his love & devotion to his family. He loved his family more than anyone will ever know. His love of family began as a loving son & dad & carried on all through his life, always supporting and enjoying every Holiday, family vacations & gatherings, music concerts (especially Sara Evans his future ex-wife), any school or sporting events his family participated in, fishing, & swimming with the grandkids & great niece & great nephew at the lake house., golfing with family & friends. He always enjoyed being their biggest fan. We will miss his homemade cheese sauce, but most of all we will miss all the smiles, hugs, encouragement, support, & his loving and giving heart. God saw you becoming tired and a cure was not to be. He put His loving arms around you and whispered "Come With Me". Survived by daughter Lisa Peterson of McLoud, Ok, son Justin Prater of Palm Springs, CA, loving partner Sheila Keough of the home, Sister Linda & husband Gary Long of Blanchard, OK, Nieces Stacie & husband Robby Mueller of Blanchard, OK, Karie & husband Anthony Wynd of OKC, Sheila's son Brian & wife Laci Keough of Norman, OK. Leon's joy & fan club Makaila & Caden Mueller, Zaden & Kyson Keough, & Bryson Kirby, as well as many cousins, relatives, & special lifelong friends. Preceded in Death by his parents, George Harvey & Wanda Prater, Grandparents O.B. & Viola Sisco, John & Pearl Prater, & Son-in-law Terry Peterson.
