Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of (Jodi) Joseph Walton Hendricks Sr., born on December 2, 1952, who left us on February 24, 2026. A cherished soul whose warmth and kindness touched everyone around him, Joseph’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and the quiet joys found in everyday moments.

Jodi was a man who reveled in simple pleasures: tending to his garden with patient care, the thrill of yard saling, the tradition of picking pecans that linked him to the land and seasons, and the joy of bar-b-queing that brought friends and family together around fragrant smoke and laughter. Fishing was another pastime he held dear, offering him tranquility and reflection. But above all, Joseph treasured being in the company of his family, a source of profound happiness that defined his days.

He is survived by his beloved children, Joseph Hendricks Jr. and Shawna Lalayne Coger, and his son-in-law Clinton Logan Coger, who carry forward his legacy of love and resilience. Joseph is also remembered fondly by his cousins Kenny and wife Bonnie, Eddie and wife Teresa, B.J. and wife Ginger, whose support and companionship were vital in his life, along with many devoted friends and extended family who shared in his journey.

Jodi was preceded in death by his father, William Hendricks; his mother, Lillie Mae Hendricks; and his two sisters, Rose Scott and Teresa Hendricks and his brother Davie Hendricks. Their memories live on in the heart of every family gathering, every story shared, and every moment of quiet reflection.

A graveside service will be held to honor Joseph’s memory on April 11, 2026, from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM at Sawyer Cemetery, located on the North Side of Sawyer Dam Road in Sawyer, Oklahoma. This service will offer a poignant opportunity for all who knew him to come together in remembrance and celebration of a life well-lived.

Joseph Walton Hendricks Sr. was more than a beloved family man; he was a friend, a guardian of traditions, and a gentle presence whose impact will be felt deeply and forever. His love for family and his passions remind us to cherish the simple, beautiful moments and the bonds that hold us together. He will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
