IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kerrey Dan
Cross
July 4, 1948 – June 17, 2024
Kerrey 'Dan' Cross, a Vietnam Veteran and longtime resident of Oklahoma City, passed away on June 17, 2024.
Dan was born on July 4, 1948, in Hobart, Oklahoma, to Odis Opher and Willie Laverne (Marshall) Cross. He had three siblings: Donny, Charles, and a twin sister Kerren.
He attended Putnam City High School (Class of 1967) and studied Business Administration at Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Ok. At the age of 18, Dan enlisted in the US Marine Corp, ultimately achieving the rank of Sergeant. In 1969, Dan served in Vietnam where he was awarded numerous medals including Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.
He worked in the retail industry for 14 years before being hired to manage ColorTile stores in Oklahoma City and New Orleans. This profession came naturally for him since his father, an expert tile contractor, had passed along his craftmanship and knowledge of the business to his son. Later, as an employee of Xerox, Dan installed the first local area network in the state of Oklahoma. That was long before the internet. He worked for Xerox for 16 years.
Though he was successful in the business arena, Dan considered his crowning achievement the rearing of his three great sons Don, Brent, and Keith from his first marriage to Bessie Geis. He also cherished the three daughters Stephanie, Niki and Emily whom he gained when he married the lovely Linda Merle Kellner in 1989.
Early influences in Dan's life included his twin sister, Kerren Ann Perkins. From before birth, she has been by his side as a source of strength and encouragement. He also recalls the inspiration he received from his paternal grandmother, Fannie Mae (McKee) Cross, who modeled a life of faith, and his grandfather, Rev. James W. Cross, who lived a life of integrity.
Dan was a devoted husband, father and brother who adored his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He survived by his wife, Linda; three sons and wives-in-law, Don and Pam, Brent and Julie, Keith and Misty; three daughters, Stephanie, Niki, Emily and Rob; twenty-one grandchildren, Dillon (Cheyanne), Haily (Josh), Lauran (Robert), Nate (Lauren), Zach, Keeli (Drew), Joshua (Reagan), Malachi (Anna), Isaac, Samuel, Emily, Allyson, Katheryn, Theron, Joseph, Ezra, Mason, Cole, Paiten, Kale, Azita; ten great-grandchildren, Kynli, Jett, Jerzi, Frankie, Dean, Lincoln, Nola, Stevie, Stella, Bentley; twin sister, Kerren (Billy); and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Dan will be interned at the Columbarium at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Ok.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Marine Corp League or Toys-for-Tots.
