IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Linda Sue
Sallaska
October 15, 1945 – April 25, 2025
Linda Sue (Lowrey) Sallaska, of Shawnee, passed away peacefully at home on April 25, 2025. She passed away just one month after the love of her life, Vernon Sallaska, reflecting the deep bond they shared. Born on Oct. 15, 1945, in Oklahoma City, Linda was the daughter of Charles and Frances (Heine) Lowrey. She graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1963 and attended Rose State College and The University of Oklahoma. Linda and Vernon were married on May 27, 1967, in Oklahoma City. They had two daughters, Shana and Megan. Together, they enjoyed bowling, country and western dancing, and raising and showing chickens through their involvement with the Oklahoma State Poultry Federation. Linda was proud to serve her country through her work at Tinker Air Force Base for many years, later continuing her career with the Internal Revenue Service. In the 1980s, she pursued her entrepreneurial spirit by opening Special Delivery, a maternity and baby retail store in Shawnee. After a long career managing Lane Bryant stores in Shawnee and Oklahoma City, Linda followed in her daughter Shana's footsteps to The Shawnee News-Star, where she spent her final working years in the classified and circulation departments before retiring. Like her mother, Linda was a gifted artist, with a special talent for painting and drawing. A lifelong animal lover, she had a soft spot for birds, a home full of dogs and cats, and was known to pull over just to help a turtle cross the road. Linda also had a playful side - she loved trying her luck at the slot machines and could happily lose herself in a good musical or sci-fi movie. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 58 years, Vernon Sallaska; her parents; and son-in-law Russell Cobb. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shana and Jim Clark; daughter, Megan Cobb, and her partner, Chris McAlister; granddaughter, Aubrey Cobb; bonus grandsons, Gavin Cobb, R.C. Cobb, Ronnie and Megan Clark, James Clark, William Clark, and Collin McAlister; brother and sister-in-law, John and Jane Lowrey; nephew, John Lowrey Jr.; and many other family and friends. A service honoring Linda's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 2, at Brown's Family Funeral Home in McLoud. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association in Linda's memory.
