Louis Edward Peterson, born on September 2, 1930, in Red Bank, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, in Oklahoma City. He crossed the Jordan River after a long and fulfilling life, leaving behind a legacy marked by skill, kindness, and dedication.
Mr. Peterson’s life was defined by his exceptional craftsmanship as a talented upholsterer and refinisher, a trade he practiced for over 70 years. His profound expertise and passion for this dying art form touched many, preserving and restoring treasured pieces with remarkable care. In his younger years, Louis honed his skills working on boats in New Jersey, experiences that no doubt shaped his remarkable attention to detail and work ethic.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Louis was a caring man who would help anyone with anything. His generosity and warmth were hallmarks of his character, making him not only a respected craftsman but also a beloved friend and neighbor. He found joy in his hobbies, which included fishing, gardening, and tinkering in his workshop. Known for his ability to work with his hands, he built furniture and various creations that reflected his creative spirit. Louis also cherished moments spent playing with Blue Blue, his dog, and especially treasured time with his family.
Louis is survived by his devoted wife, Jane Peterson, with whom he shared a life filled with love and mutual respect. His children—Joseph Peterson; Diane Maletto; Ronald Peterson and his wife Laurie; and Doug and Carrie Peterson—carry forward his legacy, supported by a loving circle of grandchildren: Nancy Maletto, Kristin Peterson, Rebecca and Harlon Bennett, Matthew Peterson, Lindsey Maletto, Brandon McNeil and Rose Warren, Tammy and Carson Brown, Emalee Brewton, Lilly King, and Alicia Peterson. Great-grandchildren Aydan Bennett, Ian Bennett, Candice McNeil, Arianna Maletto, Elijah Brown, Ryon Bennett, Melody McNeil, and Liam Brown further celebrate his memory and the indelible mark he left on their lives.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mabel Peterson, all of his siblings, and his son Richard Peterson. Their memories remain cherished by all who knew them.
A visitation to honor Louis Edward Peterson will be held on June 30, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Brown's Family Funeral Home, located at 416 E Broadway, McLoud, Oklahoma 74851. His burial service will take place on July 1, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Rossville Cemetery, 990 Rd and Hwy 177, Wellston, Oklahoma 74881.
Throughout his life, Louis Edward Peterson exemplified steadfast dedication to his craft, deep love for his family, and an unwavering spirit of kindness. He leaves behind a world enriched by his talents and a family inspired by his example. His memory will continue to be a blessing to all who had the honor of knowing him.
