Longtime Meeker Resident Marietta Jewel Scruggs Spencer went to meet her loved ones in Heaven on August 27, 2020 at the age of 78. She was born September 3, 1941 in Lindsay, Oklahoma to Manuel Scruggs and Jewel Hanley Scruggs. There she developed a lifelong work ethic by working on the family farm milking cows and cutting broom corn. She was a 1959 graduate of Lindsay High School. Soon after graduation she went to work at REC in Lindsay. While there she enjoyed summers water skiing with her friends after work. She went on to work at Western Electric in Oklahoma City where she met her dear friend Zona. The two rarely missed a day of speaking over the phone and usually spoke more than once a day. In 1970 she moved to Meeker, Oklahoma. She went to work for Mobil Chemical where she stayed until retirement. She loved people so she took on a second job working at C & W Station. Through the years she met countless people and touched many lives. Soon after moving to Meeker she met another lifelong friend Carol Walker. Marietta spent a lot of time over the years cheering on the Meeker Bulldogs while her sons and grandchildren played. She believed all kids should play sports. She especially loved football. Marietta had a passion for life. She loved her family with all her heart but a close second was dirt track racing. She could be found at the racetrack most weekends encouraging her favorite drivers, her most favorite being her grandsons. She could be seen cheering loudly and using her arms as if she was driving the car. The races are where she met her loving companion Bob Cleere. The two spent many years traveling to races across the state. It was a shared passion for them. Bob even introduced her to some of her favorite drivers. Marietta was preceded in death by her father Manuel Scruggs and her sister Sylita Gay Scruggs Dreaden She is survived by her Mother Jewel Scruggs, two sons Tom Spencer and wife Kim Spencer a Ty Wayne Spencer and Angel Landers, her brothers Dwayne Scruggs, Lynn Scruggs and Brent Scruggs, sister in law Rhonda Scruggs, her grandchildren Colton Fowler and wife Brandi Fowler , Dillon Spencer and wife Heather Spencer, JT Spencer and Meadow Spencer, Tyler Maynard, Jared Maynard, Jaci Smith and Zaxton Landers, six great grandchildren Kendyl Fowler, Gentri Fowler, Weslyn Fowler, Cooper Spencer, Sophia Spencer and Sadie Spencer, many nieces and nephews along with countless friends and kids she considered her own. 2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
