IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Moses Ogonda
Aguko
November 30, 1974 – November 30, 2023
It is with great sorrow that we regret to inform you that we have lost a Gentle Giant amongst us by the names of Moses Ogonda Aguko (aka Tallie, Idi, Mosese). We would kindly like to take this opportunity to share his journey from birth up to his demise.
He was born in 1975 to (Alfred Aguko and Benta Aguko) at Holy Rosary Hospital in Thika, Kenya. He was a brother to (Tom Okumu, the Late Salome Aguko, Martin Aguko, the Late Lucy Aguko, Beatrice Adhiambo, the Late Mercylene Aguko, and Agnes Aguko).
Until his death, he was living with his family (spouse Holly Renee Rimer and daughter Paris Larain Rimer Aguko) in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
He was born and raised in Thika. He attended St. Patrick's Primary School and Equator High School in Thika municipality. He played basketball for Equator High School and helped them reach the Central Provincial Finals. He continued to hone his skills locally at Thika Stadium (aka Mabati Hall Arena by Slammers' faithful) with the Slammers basketball team, which was later adopted and sponsored by Carnaud Metal Box (CMB) company. He was recruited by Post Bank Club to join their squad and play for their club in the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Division 1/Premier League.
Later, he joined the local Kilimambogo Teachers' Training College as a student-athlete and won two championships for his college at the Inter-Teachers' Colleges League. He graduated as a teacher at the same institution. He enrolled at Kenya Christian Industrial Training Institute (K.C.I.T.I.) to further his studies, and while there, he received an invitation to join the national squad and represent Kenya at the international level, joining the Kenyan team, the Kenya Morans.
Through K.C.I.T.I., he received an athletics scholarship to attend Southwest University in El Paso, TX, where he graduated with a Master's degree in nursing. Upon graduation, he moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma, in the greater Oklahoma City area, and became a senior medical director in the nursing field.
Moses was an extremely compassionate pediatric RN, working for Children's Home Healthcare up until his untimely passing.
Moses was a quiet and humble man who never drew attention to himself and lived a peaceful life with his family. He was a husband, father, son, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend to many, young and old. He made a positive impact in the community near and far, sponsoring local basketball and football/soccer tournaments in Thika. Football was his first love, and he excelled at it. His absolute favorite thing to do was taking Paris to as many Thunder basketball games as possible.
He leaves behind a legacy of helping to inspire both young and old and keeping the faith through hard work and persistence. He made no excuses and proved that even in humble beginnings, anyone can make a positive impact in the community near and far.
You will forever be missed and linked to Thika.
