Oma was born at home in Ada, the family moved to a farm in Ahloso during the depression. She
loved living on the dairy farm and loved getting the cream from the milk every morning. A real

schooled in the arts so she took piano lessons from Murray and Johnnie Lucas for years. She also
played the violin and was a part of the ECU orchestra when she was still in high school. She
graduated in 1951 and went to Phillips University where she received a BS in Education in three
years. In 1953 she married Galen Riggs in a double ceremony with her sister. She married James
Martin in 1977 and received her MEd in Remedial Reading from East Central University in 1990.
Oma followed in her mother's and grandmother's footsteps teaching elementary students in
seven states, with the last place being McLish where she taught Kindergarten and was the
reading specialist.
Oma was the matriarch and is survived by a daughter, Diana Drummond (Rick), sons David Riggs
(Raven) and Jason Riggs (Susie). Grandchildren Tiffany Grace Griffitts (Jeff), Jason-Paul Lance
DeLue (Sara), Maggie Andrea Pack (Ken), Aaron Joseph (Rachel), Lydia Grace Riggs, Austin Riggs,
Emily Riggs and Matthew Gore (Lauren). Great Grandchildren Kadence Griffitts, Taylor Griffitts;

Kiesel Finn and Waylon Gore. She is preceded in death by her daughter Gina Riggs Dewey,
husband Jim, her parents, sister, Drew Lynn and brother Jim. She is also survived by several
nieces, nephews and their families.
Oma loved her Lord and worked hard her entire life serving Him and serving others. She was an
accomplished pianist and organist. She played for Hickory Hill Baptist Church and Clinchfield
Baptist Church in Marion, NC. She loved to travel and spent her last years traveling around the
United States. She always said she led such a blessed life and was hardly sick at all. She will be
remembered and missed by many.
