Obituary

Susan Gayle Worthley, age 68, passed peacefully August 16, 2021, from liver failure.  Born March 28, 1953, in Fort MacArthur California, her parents, Donald and Vera Searle bestowed a name onto Susan Gayle that would define her determined but delicate personality.

The meaning of "Susan Gayle," a strong-willed flower, exemplified on May 10, 1970, when she married her long-time husband Billy Worthley at the age of seventeen to remain in Marlow, Oklahoma while her military family moved to Washington.

Susan and Billy Worthley celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 2020 to commemorate years of joy, heartache, and perseverance that enveloped the love between these two.  Their marriage endured many life twists such as a military draft; split shifts at work to raise two boys; and a tornado that destroyed their home causing them to move to Shawnee, Oklahoma.

She began her career at Shawnee High School as a cook and was later promoted to the Shawnee Middle School Cafeteria Manager until retirement.  After that, her floriated personality and love for arts and crafts influenced all around her as she led "Secret Sisters," craft days, and outings to plays at the Shawnee Little Theater at the Aldridge Apartments where many other elderly occupants resided.

Susan is survived by her brother Byron Searle; husband Billy Worthley; and two sons, Jeffrey and Jason Worthley.  Her infectious joyfulness lives in her grandchildren, Jeff, Brayden, Leora, Jase, Draven, Trinity (who represents her deceased twin brother Trenton), Gage, and great-granddaughter Isabella.  Jack and Beverly, Ruby Young, and Jimmy and Luann are brothers and sisters-in-law who are very close to Susan. Many nieces and nephews were deeply touched by Susan Gayle. All of these she loved and touched deeply.

She was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Vera Searle, brother Donald Paul Searle, brother-in-law Jim Young, and sisters-in-law Linda Smith and Emma Harris.

Please join us celebrating her life Friday morning August 20 at 10:00 am for her viewing and then at 2:00 pm at Shawnee Nazarene Church at 401 North Market Avenue in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
