William Joseph Dyer Jr., born on June 22, 1944, in the vibrant city of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, left an indelible mark on all who knew him when he passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, in Prague, Oklahoma. Bill’s heart found joy in the art of woodworking and pen making, where his hands crafted beauty and function with patient care and skill. These creative pursuits were not merely hobbies but expressions of his thoughtful nature and his desire to leave lasting imprints, much like the deep impressions he made on the lives of his loved ones.
A devoted leader and mentor, William's passion for the Boy Scouts was a defining cornerstone of his life. He and his father shared the remarkable honor of being the first father and son duo inducted into the Order of the Arrow, a testament to their shared values of brotherhood and service. Bill’s strong involvement in fostering the growth and achievements of young scouts, showcased his unwavering dedication to nurturing character and resilience.
Bill’s family was the center of his world, and his spirit lives on vibrantly through them. He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Susan Dyer, whose steadfast partnership was a source of strength throughout his life’s journey. Their children, Samuel Dyer and Andrew Dyer, carry forward his legacy, as do his older children. Daughter Sharon McDonald and her spouse Justin, along with their three children Kimberly, Nicholas, and Cassidy who were the pride and joy of their grandfather. His sons William (Billy) Dyer and his children, Courtney and Rylin; Michael Dyer and spouse Dani Dyer with their sons Aiden and Mason Dyer. Bill had one great-grandson, Joey, who undoubtedly inherited some of Bill’s spirited heart. He was also cherished by his brother Harold and sister-in-law Marie Dyer, and through them, their son John, and daughter Amy, and grandson Landon, all of whom carry forward his memory. Among close family and friends, Terry and Kathy McMinn his closest cousins, hold treasured memories of Bill that speak to the deep bonds he nurtured beyond immediate family.
Bill’s journey was predeceased by his beloved parents William and Rita Dyer and his sister Mabel Johnson and family members Tommy Johnson, Faye Johnson, and Laura Johnson whose memories he carried with him, shaping the man he became.
Reflecting on William Joseph Dyer Jr.’s life, one sees a narrative rich with love, craftsmanship, leadership, and family devotion.
