Obituary

Donald Richard Atwell was born to William O. Atwell, Sr an Ethel Hawks Atwell on December 8,1933 in Garber , Oklahoma.  Don passed peacefully at home on Wednesday , April 19,2023. 

Don was preceded in death by his parents, William O. Atwell, Sr and Ethel Hawks Atwell; brothers, Kenneth Atwell and William Atwell, Jr; sisters Cora Atwell, Mildred, Betty Coffey, and June Alford. His wife of 17 years Barty Atwell. Don is survived by Sally Hommert, his  loving companion for eleven years, Several stepchildren and grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.

Don served in the Navy from 1952 to 1960.  Don was a horse trainer for twenty years and continued to serve as a woodworker and supervisor at Tinker Air Force Base’s Wood Mill until his retirement at age 62. He was a good man who loved rodeo and sports all his life. He highly valued his years spent raising his stepchildren, and spending time with his grandchildren. Don enjoyed traveling in an RV and raising goats. He loved going out to eat!  He had fond memories of church trips and his church family at Mammoth Baptist Church. He will be missed by family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at Mammoth Baptist Church on May 9,2023 at 11:00 am.
