Wendell Pitre Obituary

Wendell Robert Pitre entered this world on May 16, 1941 as the fifth child born to Jason and Thelma Pitre in Slick, Ok. He accepted the Lord at an early age, graduated from Toussaint L'Overture school. Wendell received his formal religions education from the Johnson Memorial Bible Institute, later earned a Bachelor of Theological Studies degree from Christian Bible College and Seminary in Independence, MO. in 2001. 

Wendell met Evelyn L. Williams on a "blind date" and their lives became intertwined forever. Soon after they married and began a family. This union produced seven children- 5 boys and 2 girls. In 1963, this family moved to Oklahoma City.

Wendell became an Operators Engineer, one of the first black members of Local Union #627. He worked 40 years for Lippert Brothers Construction company retiring in 2003. Wendell and his family united with the St. Johns Missionary BC under Dr. W.K. Jackson where he received his call to the ministry. He later served as the Youth Minister and Assistant to the Pastor at Faith Memorial BC under Dr. Morris A. Curry.
 

In 1983, Rev. W.R. and Sis. Evelyn Pitre were installed as Pastor and First Lady of the First BC of Luther, Ok. this "dynamic duo" faithfully served in these capacities for 38 years, before passing the mantle of leadership to Reverend Jack and Sister Brenda Mitchell in 2021. 

After a brief illness, Wendell departed this life on September 14, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn of the home; son James Pitre of Midwest City, Ok; his parents, sisters, Cedonia Johnson of Bristow, Ok and Helen Mustin of Broken Arrow, Ok and brother Carl Leon of OKC, Jason Don and Clarence of Kansas City, MO. 

Wendell leaves to cherish his memory his daughters Brenda (Jack) Mitchell and Marva of OKC; his sons Anthony (Cassandra), Leonard, Michael, and Glen all of OKC; granddaughters, Constance Pitre (Mareen) of OKC and Aaliyah (Ollie Marie) of Midwest City; grandsons Josiah (Stacy) of Pueblo, CO and Kayden (Amber) of Norman, OK; sister Darlene (Arthur) Colbert of Slick, Ok; brother Glen Pitre of OKC and Dwight Pitre of Kansas City, MO; sister-in-law Patricia Pitre of Kansas City, MO and a host of cousins, friends, brothers, and sisters in Christ and extended family members.
